The problem arises out of biomagnification. The higher concentration of plastics also means a higher concentration of chemicals that the plastics are made from. As plastic is inside of the animals the chemicals leech out into the tissues. Animals then transfer the chemicals as they eat and get eaten. This includes people. When humans eat fish, and crustaceans, any toxins and chemicals that seeped into its tissues are then transferred into the human body. BPA is the most known chemical in plastics due to its laundry list of known symptoms, however there are other chemicals that make up plastics. Phthalates also caused lower sperm counts which could turn into prostate cancer much like BPA, Phthalates have also been linked to liver tumors.
