While it may not be in plain sight to the public, the issues are still the same as other areas in the world. There is tourism in the Pacific Northwest, however it’s not to see tropical fish. Washington profits from fisherman coming to one of Washington’s port cities, which includes Bellingham, and renting a charter to enjoy the sport of fishing. However, one of Washington’s biggest fishing game is being threatened by global warming. Before the salmon reach the ocean, they are eggs in the rocks in a river. With an increase of severe storms, there is more flooding in the winter and spring. This rush of more water causes the rocks to move, revealing the salmon egg, causing them to wash away before they’re ready . Because of this, there is a population decrease in salmon. Salmon are a part of the food chain, and with a decrease in their population, the animals that prey on them, which include the orca, will have rely more heavily on other food sources, or migrate to a place with more food.

The principle is the same for touristic, and commercial fisherman. In Alaska, fishermen are having to move to a a new location as the fish move to colder ocean climates. All of the fish are moving toward the poles to continuously adapt to their environment, even along the coast of Washington state. The lose of the catch in Washington, causes touristic fisherman to go further north. My roommate is going on a fishing trip with her family this summer, and she is going to Alaska, rather than to one of the many businesses in Washington.
